Cbfc Ceo Shravan Kumar Resigns

Sources say Shravan stepped down over differences with Chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani

In a shocking move of sorts, Shravan Kumar, the CEO of CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification), has resigned from his post. He was appointed CEO after former head Rakesh Kumar was arrested on charges of corruption in August last year.

Sources from the Board say that Shravan was having several differences with the Censor Board Chairperson, Pahlaj Nihalani.

On June 16, an internal mail was circulated between Board members stating that Shravan was stepping down from his position as CEO, without any official reason.

While Shravan’s sudden resignation left many members baffled, another shocking fact was quick to follow.

A Board member said that in a few hours, another mail reached them. It stated that Manish Desai, a Press Information Bureau veteran, was appointed to the post. In September 2013, Desai was appointed the interim CBFC CEO after Pankaja Thakur completed her term.

The move raises questions about internal rife within the CBFC as a Board meeting scheduled to take place on June 9 was unceremoniously cancelled by Nihalani.

When contacted, Shravan dismissed rumours of a rift. He said, “I had to leave to pursue management training in IIM Bangalore. Its a course all IRS appointees are expected to complete. I also want to finish a programme on Film Documentation in Amsterdam. I plan to return by August.”
